Before getting to be painted the seperate parts of the tulip vase to be are slipcast with liquid clay into molds of plaster. This also includes casting the 16 flutes (supposed to hold the tulips in the vase). With the 4 tiers and the base and lid the Delftblue tulip vase four tier consists thus of a total of 22 pieces.fter being released from the molds the green clay gets fired and thus gets ready to be painted piece by piece. The painting is done before the glazing (underglaze painting) and when the painting is done, glaze is applied and the ceramic delftblue parts can get fired again at a high temperature.
