In our workshop, we produce Delft and Gouda earthenware using casting slip. Liquid clay is poured into porous plaster molds, where a layer (“shell”) forms as moisture is drawn out. After careful drying, the piece is removed (often from multi-part molds), refined while still fragile “greenware,” and then fired at around 1020°C to become strong, porous bisque—ready for decoration and glazing. Many bisque pieces are kept blank in stock so we can add any décor later.
