Craftsmanship that you see

Our family business Dutchceramics (Montagne Aardewerkfabriek BV) has been working with traditional Delft and Gouda ceramic methods since 1950. In our own workshop, the plates are shaped, dried, painted, glazed and fired by hand.

This method makes each piece unique. Whether you choose a single hand-painted plate or a series of plates via screen printing, each item passes through the hands of experienced craftsmen and gets all the attention it deserves.

How is your plate made?

1. Forming the base: The clay is manually shaped into an even base shape in the desired format.
2. Drying and pre-baking: The plate is slowly dried and fired for the first time, so that it becomes firm and dimensionally stable.
3. Applying the design: Our pottery painters apply the décor by hand, such as names, date or illustration.
4. Glazes: The plate gets a protective glaze layer for a beautiful, bright finish.
5. Final firing at high temperature: During the final firing, the characteristic deep blue colour comes to the fore.

These traditional steps ensure a durable plate that can last for generations.
